Day 4

Saturday, November 20, 2004
Mumbai Time:1304hrs

I received a call from the hotel management this morning. They invited me to a poolside party tonight for long-staying guests. Wow!!! Saturday night poolside party. I'm loving it!

I spent the morning preparing some flow charts for my presentation towards the end of my attachment. I thought that it is better if I start a bit at a time whenever I have the time rather than leaving everything in the last minute. Plus, I do not have the mood to go out anywhere. My agenda for the day will be to review the CDs (apparently a lot to cover!), as well as prepare some slides for my discussion with Anjali on Monday morning.

Presentations and meetings seem to be the norm in a corporate organization. Practically, an organization like schools function the same way except that we have to do more, I realized. Not only we do have presentations, meetings and agendas to meet but we also have to look into our pupils' welfare and education, attend to parents' needs and even settling some administrative duties. That's a lot, I observed compared to what the employees here are doing.

I love people watching and I just did that yesterday. I observed the way the employees here interact with each other. Basically, once they reached the office, it's like a synchronized clockwork where everyone knows what to do, when to take breaks and of course when to call it a day. This is a very different culture indeed. Unlike them, a teacher's work is not as synchronized as them. Everyday, for us, is a new experience as we interact with our children and our daily tasks. We do not even have scheduled breaks as sometimes we have to cover up or relief staffs. From my point of view, it is really a heavy baggage we're lugging. Perhaps, with the presence of teachers' aide, things will improve for good.
